Security has been heightened at Tauranga Crossing following a burglary in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police were notified at 2.13am that there had been a break-in at the shopping centre on Taurikura Drive.
"Officers attended, however, those responsible fled the scene prior to Police arrival," says a police spokesperson.
"A vehicle was located at the scene, and it is believed a group of offenders took a number of items before fleeing in another vehicle."
A search of the area was carried out, but no arrests have been made at this time.
"An investigation is underway and a scene examination has taken place. "
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a number of shops were targeted, including Michael Hill Jeweller and Pascoes.
Police have not confirmed this, but a reporter at the scene says Michael Hill is completely shut off with added barricading.
"Pascoes is open.
"There is a lot of security."
Police are asking anyone with information about the burglary to call them on 105, quoting file number 210809/5108. '
