Police are continuing to investigate a suspected arson at a cell-tower in Kairua, near Welcome Bay.

The fire was reported to emergency services at about 3.10am on Wednesday, July 21.

'We are investigating and it is being treated as an arson,” says a police spokesperson.

'No arrests have been made at this time and our enquiries are continuing.”

Vodafone, who own the tower in question, confirm that their team is working with authorities regarding their investigations.

They are also working on repairing the tower and a temporary solution should have recovered coverage for those who were previously impacted.

Vodafone are also continuing to assess their security measures surrounding cellphone towers but could not add any further comment at this time.

Last week, Vodafone senior communications lead Nicky Preston, said the company were 'incredibly disappointed” their tower had been targeted in an arson attack.
