International cricket icon, Brendon McCullum, has been announced for this year's Tauranga Gala Dinner.

The event, into its ninth year, will be held on Friday, July 16, at Trustpower Baypark Arena and is tipped to be a star-studded night of 5-star entertainment.

"Adding to the celebrations this year are a trio of New Zealand's most acclaimed performers, with Jackie Clarke, Tina Cross and Taisha Tari set to provide stunning entertainment throughout the night with their sensational group, The Lady Killers," says event organisers in a statement released today.

"Joining McCullum on stage will be renowned sports broadcaster, Scotty Stevenson, who will host the evening as MC and tease out exclusive insights and stories from the cricketing legend."

McCullum, one of New Zealand's most successful batsmen and captains, was the first New Zealander to score a triple century in a test, gaining 302 runs against India in 2014.

That same year, he also became the first Kiwi to score 1000 test runs in a calendar year. In his final test outing, he broke the record for scoring the fastest ever test century, in 54 balls.

Currently coaching the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, Brendon will also coach the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League later this year. In 2020, McCullum led them to their fourth CPL title.

"Once again, a local charity will be invited to raise funds alongside the event, with some exclusive items up for grabs as part of charity auctions on the night.

"A number of charitable recipients are in consideration for this year, with further information announced soon."

Aside from the insights and entertainment from McCullum, Stevenson and The Lady Killers, The Tauranga Gala Dinner also includes a 3-course menu, fine beverages, audience Q&A, charity auction, VIP options and plenty of after-function revelry.

General public bookings are open from today. Information and bookings are available at www.taurangagaladinner.co.nz

If that golf show with Phil “tuffers” Tufnell is anything to go by he’ll have them fast asleep in no time.
