It's good to see New Zealand is bucking the world trend by ignoring collapsing finance/economies by keeping prices high, this includes new cars (from January), groceries, farming supplies and white ware. Even though fuel is nearly the price it was three years ago.
A prime example is the company that has taken over the two transfer stations (no competition either) no more than a month ago and having been assured at the time that there was no intention of increasing prices, have now been increased by 12.5%, although the landfill price increased by only 8%.
While hard working small businesses, especially those linked with the housing market, are struggling to keep afloat, these companies are not helping others in a slower economy and only out to look after number one. Not everything is reliant on the value of the dollar, surely!
While we are all told to reduce our dependency on oil, we are not given any alternatives. Those of us who choose to live away from the congested city are unable to hop on a bus as none are available and have to rely on fossil fuels.
