Some of New Zealand's best musical talent will be coming to KatiKati next weekend to perform works by American, English, French and Russian composers.
The Auckland Youth Orchestra, made up of 75 players aged 16-26, will play at the KatiKati War Memorial Hall on Sunday, March 21, at 2pm, featuring Soloist Jim Wu.
Treasurer of the orchestra Helen Lewis says the orchestra of outstanding young musicians.
'The programme is full of famous works which we believe will be enjoyable for many.”
They will perform Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Wiliams, Ravel's ‘Pavane for a Dead Princess' and ‘Pictures at an Exhibition' by Mussorgsky, which according to the orchestra, is one of the most brilliant showpieces in the orchestral repertoire.
Jim holds a LTCL from the Trinity College in London and has played with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra, as well as performed in festivals in Europe.
The orchestra is led by Antun Poljanich who, following post-graduate musical studies in Austria, won a scholarship which took him to Leningrad for a three-year Master Course in Conducting at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory.
He has since worked with several prominent orchestras in Russia and Europe including the Leningrad State Symphony Orchestra, the Veneto Philharmonia, the Slovene and Croatian National Orchestras.
