Opotiki scrub fire under investigation

A scrub fire that caused damage to buildings in Opotiki remains under investigation.

Several buildings were involved in the blaze, including a hay barn, a shed and a cowshed.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern communications shift manager Mark Richards has confirmed the buildings involved in the fire are now 'under control” and have been since 5.30pm, yesterday.

However, fire crews remain on standby.

Fire crews were alerted to the scrub fire measuring 200m x 20m in the Maraenui district alongside State Highway 36 at 2.36pm yesterday.

Up to seven crews were called to attend the fire and a helicopter was also dispatched.
