Police have responded to a firearms incident in Whakamarama.

A police spokesperson says they were notified of the incident at Waipapa Block Road around 6 this evening.

"Police attended and there were no further issues," says the spokesperson.

A reporter at the scene says an armed policeman was blocking Old Highway at the intersection with Youngson Road.
