Power is out to hundreds of homes in the Western Bay of Plenty.

Powerco is reporting that 706 properties are affected by the power cut in Oropi.

The supply went down just before 2.30pm.

Contractors are working to restore power in the area and it is estimated to be back on around 7.30pm.

The cause of the outage is under investigation.
