Go By Bike Day rolls round

Sport Bay of Plenty recreation connector Philip Seed, right, and (LtoR) friend Blaise Houston-Amor, and colleagues Kim Rust and Simone Rose gear up for another great Go By Bike Day.

Go By Bike Day is back on tomorrow, and Sport Bay of Plenty is encouraging people of all ages to swap their car trips for a bike and discover the benefits of cycling.

Part of Sport Bay of Plenty's Bike Month calendar of activities, Go By Bike Day includes pitstops around Tauranga offering free refreshments and spot prizes for those out biking.

Sport Bay of Plenty recreation connector Philip Seed says Go By Bike Day is a fun morning event that encourages everyone to get on a bike.

'Many of us may have reconnected with our bikes over lockdown last year and got out to explore our neighbourhoods on two wheels.

'If you've fallen out of that habit, Go By Bike Day is a great way to get back biking because there will be lots of other people out and about and plenty of encouragement from fellow riders, Sport Bay of Plenty, Travel Safe and the My Ride Mt Maunganui team.”

Seed also notes the numerous health and transport benefits that come with biking.

'Riding to work or school, or just for fun, is a great way to improve your heart health, joint mobility and mental wellbeing.”

Six Go By Bike Day pitstops will be operating across Tauranga on Thursday, February 11, between 6:45 and 9am:

  • Red Square, Tauranga City

  • Cameron Rd (opposite Tauranga Boys' College)

  • Harbour Bridge (marina on cycleway side)

  • Omanu Bowling Club carpark, Golf Rd

  • Grenada St - by Reilly Ave Reserve

  • Corner of Chapel St and Maxwells Rd

Go By Bike Day is part of Bike Month – a calendar of free events across February to encourage people to get out biking. Find more details at www.sportbop.co.nz/bikemonth.
