UPDATE 10am: A person of interest is in custody following a police chase in Bethlehem.

A police spokesperson says they recieved a report of a driving complaint on Carmicahel Road this morning.

Police then were able to arrest the person of interest.

"We don't have anything to add on this."

SunLive was also contacted about sightings of armed police near Taniwha Place.

Earlier: SunLive readers are reporting a police chase in the Bethlehem area.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotlline says she was driving down Te Puna Station Road when she saw red and blue flashing lights coming up behind her.

"It gave me a hell of a fright.

"Several police cars passed me and were chasing a car up SH2, over the Wairoa Bridge towards Bethlehem.

"There are lots of police in the area. People should take care and keep an eye out.

"People were lined up at Bethlehem shops watching."
