A Tauranga kitten who spent two days teetering at the top of a tall tree miraculously made it home safe after falling about 10 metres.

Jet, the five-month-old ragdoll kitten, was chased up the tree by a neighbour's dog on Sunday morning.

After two days of searching, he was heard quietly meowing at the top of a sweet cherry tree in the neighbour's backyard.

The kitten then fell and 'amazingly” landed in the arms of a woman waiting underneath the tree.

Jet is a support kitten for Tauranga woman Jane Mangan, who is currently battling stage four ovarian cancer.

Her son Kern Mangan-Walker says the family was gutted when Jet went missing.

'It was a real struggle - we have had so much bad news lately and Jet brings so much joy to all of our lives.”

Kern says Jet was on top of these 'tiny little branches” when he was found at the top of the tree.

'Jet was at the very tip of the tree, there was essentially nothing holding him up. We just heard him meowing by chance, and then when we went over there he fell into my partner's arms.

'He fell from a great height. It was pretty great timing, but my partner has some gnarly scratches from it.”

Kern says they bought Jet soon after Jane was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

'Having an animal in the house to support and be with her, adds a lot of joy,” he says.

According to Kern, the terrified kitten 'ate heaps of food and just passed out” immediately after it was rescued.

The family is currently trying to raise money to assist Jane in her cancer treatment through a Givealittle page.
