Investigations are underway following a robbery at a Tauranga liquor store.

Police received a report of a robbery at the Fraser Cover Shopping Centre about 9:30pm.

'A person entered a store, assaulted a staff member and left with cigarettes,” says a police spokesperson.

'The staff member didn't require ambulance.

'No arrests have been made at this stage.”

A SunLive reporter at the scene says police were guarding The Bottle-O Fraser Cove overnight.

"There were three police cars at the scene and others driving around in the area.”

People with information about the robbery are urged to contact police on the non-emergency 105 line.
