A silver lining of closed boarders is the cream of Kiwi talent heading to summer hotspots around New Zealand with the Summer Concert Tour 2021.

This Sunday is Whitianga's turn, which will see Gin Wigmore, Dragon, The Jordan Luck Band, Stellar* and Hello Sailor take to the stage at the Whitianga Waterways event park.

The Greenstone Entertainment event kicked off in Queenstown last weekend to a crowd of more than 10,000 people.

Greenstone Entertainment CEO Amanda Calvert says Kiwis have a hunger for live music this summer.

'We are in a fortunate and unique position here in NZ, and the Queenstown show is a testament to just how lucky we all are,” says Amanda.

'We take great pride in delivering an awesome experience for our fans, and as we move the tour to the North Island for our remaining two shows in Taupo and Whitianga we hope those who haven't already bought a ticket will do so, and come along for a great summer's day out.”

Attendees can expect a songbook of NZ's unofficial anthems, from Dragon's April Sun in Cuba and Hello Sailor's Gutter Black, to Why Does Love do this to me and Victoria from The Jordan Luck band, led by The Exponents frontman, Jordan Luck.

Headline act and multiple music award winner Gin Wigmore will play highlights from her five album discography, including songs Hey Ho and Kill of the Night.

The original Stellar* line-up will transport listeners back to feeling cool in the ‘90s and 00s, with tracks like Violent, Every Girl and All it Takes.

This is the 7th year that the Summer Concert Tour has come to Whitianga.

Last year's line-up featured all international acts, including Anastacia, Smashmouth and Creedence Clearwater Revisited, which features two ex-members from Creedence Clearwater Revival.

A Greenstone Entertainment organiser says the tour would have an international lineup again if boarder restrictions allowed for it.

The all-Kiwi lineup was pulled together in about a week.

'It was a very frantic period,” says the organiser.

'The support from our Kiwi artists, and the audience's reaction to them, has been incredible.”

The organiser says the Thames-Coromandel District Council estimates that the tour's Whitianga show injects about $6 million into the Coromandel economy.

'We're incredibly proud to be bringing shows to the regions as opposed to the main centres, and to play a small part in supporting local economies.”

Tickets for the Summer Concert Tour Whitianga are available here.

To allow for contract tracing, organisers ask attendees to scan in at the venue using the NZ COVID Tracer app, bring ID, and ensure it's their own name on the ticket.

'If your name doesn't match your ticket, this can easily be changed by logging into your Moshtix account, which is our ticketing agent.”
