Police are investigating what some people are reporting to be gunshots being heard in Welcome Bay.

A police spokesperson says they have received one report from the area this afternoon.

"It mentions a number of loud bangs being heard in the distance.

"Police have been dispatched to the area and will most likely take a look to see if there is anything obvious occurring."

A SunLive reader says they heard what sounded to be gunshots in the area, but were not sure the direction the sound was coming from.
