Police have arrested nine people following an incident on Willow St, Tauranga last night that left a man seriously injured.
Police were called about 6.50pm following a report of a disorder incident where a group of people approached a man at a bus stop.
Following a verbal exchange, the man was allegedly assaulted by the group.
The people are not known to each other.
The man received serious injuries and was transported to hospital and has since been discharged.
In relation to the incident, nine people were arrested.
A 20-year-old man is due to appear in Tauranga District Court tomorrow on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The remainder will undergo a youth process.
Police are still working to locate a further person believed to be involved.
"The arrests should bring some reassurance to the community that this type of incident will not be tolerated," says a Police spokesperson.
"Everyone in our community deserves to go about their lives safely and feeling safe.
"Police hope these quick arrests demonstrate our commitment to holding those responsible to account.
"We would also like to thank those members of the public who witnessed the incident and acted quickly to call emergency services and provide help to the victim."
As the matter is now before the courts, Police will not be commenting further.

Only a matter of time before somebody is killed in the CBD. The writing has been on the wall for a long time. No Police to be seen. It’s no good all coming with flashing lights to wipe somebody off the floor and send yobs to “youth process”. Woke does not work.
Really?...

I normally back our Police force whenever and however I can BUT this 'crap' has been going down at this bus stop for TOO LONG!!! Hopefully, finally, these low-lifes will be 'sorted' once and for all! We don't need a 'death' do we surely??? Come on cops, keep ON IT!!

It’s common knowledge that low life’s and scumbags hang around Willow street bus terminal area. Why wait until a human is hurt before rounding up and throwing these pieces of crap out of the city centre.
All will be well

Our new commissar when whoever it is, arrives will no doubt sort this out. Along with all the other stuff to do. Have they a hotline to the plods? Seriously a joke on the ratepayers of the city.
Youth Process

Well there's a joke for you. I'm sure the youth court is run by their mummy's. Andrew Becroft needs to stop standing up for these little brats and being all mampy pampy for the little darlings. What they need to face is reality. Adult crime - adult justice. In today's society by the time they get to 18yrs it's WAY too late. Once you reach college age it should be adult justice system.

Hello, I am the victims mother. He was severely beaten by several people, they stomped on his head numerous times, he has boot prints all over his forehead to prove it. Two black eyes- very swollen all over his face, arms and torso. He was knocked unconscious and was taken to hospital with blood coming from his ears and had to have a CT Scan. Thanks very much to the nurse that happened to stop and stay with him until the ambulance arrived. I work at Tauranga Hospital and know how busy it gets. My son was discharged after a CT Scan and is currently being monitored at home. It was an ugly, horrific attack and it cannot happen again. This kid needs to be in adult court. End of story. 20 years old??

... but we have been calling for more policing of this area for a long time now. Maybe it needs a community patrol like the Mount has going. Once these vagrants start mugging in combined groups, as happened here, we have lost the City; no families are going to risk their kids going there. I'm also tired of bleeding heart stories about terrible childhoods and upbringings as an excuse. The man who was hurt gets no solace from that. There is no excuse for violence except in defence of your life or others; this is a cynical mugging using overwhelming force. There needs to be a solid clampdown on this behavior NOW, before it becomes established as "normal".

IfPosted on 20-12-2020 17:49 | By groutby ...’the man received serious injuries...’and has since been discharged’..?..how serious is serious?...what is the truth?...in response to your enquiring comment... if you had read my post before yours you will see that my son is the victim. He was in hospital for a great length of time and wanted to go home after various tests and CT scans. Here we go with conspiracy theories?! My son is actually lucky they didnt kill him. Wonder if you have children?
