A blockade has been put in place to the entrance of a Mount Maunganui business this morning.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there are about seven people blocking access to Ballance Agri Nutrients.

"They have built some sort of platform thing in the middle of the road.

"Police are at the scene. It will probably cause some delays."

Photos sent to SunLive show protesters holding up signs about calling for clean air.

They are also protesting the use of phosphate in New Zealand.

A police spokesperson says there have been reports of traffic delays in the area.

Strange laws that allow this

I am amazed anyone can just erect structures in the middle of a road like that legally. Looks like plenty of room off to the side and out of the way, imagine if a vehicle clips them.

Stand aside

They should be arrested . No one has the right to block roads to stop lawful traffic. There are proper and lawful ways to protest and lobby this is not one and shouldn't be accepted. Our borders need protection from biological threat and fumigation is essential. Concerns should be addressed to science and methods not to disrupt essential activity.

The right thing. The wrong way. Definitely not the way to get the public on-side.

A danger to others

Do theses oh so self righteous do gooders ever think of their actions consequences ? What if someone in the firm has a heart attack, an accident, or a fire starts? The delay incurred to the life saving services by these arrogant citizens could well cost some one their life, but that's OK, it's just collateral damage in the war for our cause !!
