One person has been taken into custody after a police car was hit on State Highway 2, near the Wairoa Bridge.
A police spokesperson says a vehicle of interest was spotted and stopped on SH2 around 8.50am.
The vehicle then made contact with a police vehicle, says the spokesperson.
"The person was taken into custody immediately with no injuries."
There was minor damage to both vehicles as a result.
The spokesperson was unable to provide information about charges at this point.
The southbound lane of SH2 was blocked for a short period of time after the incident, but has since reopened.
