Police investigating a hit and run incident in Tauranga are appealing for information.

Around 10pm on Monday, a person was struck by a vehicle on Watling Street.

The person sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, says a police spokesperson.

'The driver of the vehicle did not stop to check on the injured person and fled the scene.

'Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and has information that can help to identify the vehicle and its driver. '
