With original running gear and diesel!

That's how the TradeMe ad starts for a Rena lifeboat.

The original lifeboat from the Rena Monrova that ran aground on the Astrolabe Reef in October 2011 is up for auction in Tauranga.

"As is where is, BUYER MUST COLLECT within 10 days of the auctions completion," states the online auction.

The lifeboat is currently located, at The Island in Papamoa where is had been used as a children's playground.

The current bid for the lifeboat is $5000.

This is not the first time a lifeboat has been auctioned off since the Rena's grounding in 2011.

Back in 2012, a Port of Tauranga worker organised an auction for Child Cancer Foundation projects in Tauranga.

This was the first Rena lifeboat to be auctioned off. The auction fetched $20,800

A second lifeboat found a home at the then Bay of Plenty Polytechnic - now named Toi Ohomai.

The plan was to use it as a teaching aid for maritime students.

What an absolute eyesore where it is. Although it is an interesting vessel, it was really never used in the (on-going) disaster. It looks an appalling mess where it is.
