Bay sailors well placed at worlds

Tauranga 49er sailor Peter Burling and his sailing partner Blair Tuke are in the top 20 after the first two days of sailing at the 49er World Championships in Croatia.

Peter and Blair are New Zealand Olympic representatives in the 49er class and are both silver medallists from the 2011 49er World Championships.

The pair are currently ranked 13th after the warmup regatta in Hyeres, France.

Yachting New Zealand spokesperson Kristine Lederis says there are currently three world championship regattas underway, with another three about to begin.

Meanwhile in the Laser World Championships in Germany, Mount Maunganui sailor Sam Meech is 21st.

Five New Zealanders are competing in the Laser World Championships in Germany and the Star World Championships in France have two days of racing left.
