Covid-19: Three new cases reported in NZ today

There are three new cases of Covid-19 reported in New Zealand today, with just one linked to the community cluster.

The Ministry of Health says the one case linked to the cluster is epidemiologically linked and is a household contact of a previously reported case.

The other two cases are imported.

They consist of a woman in her 20s who arrived in New Zealand on August 16 from Croatia via Switzerland and Hong Kong.

She was in managed isolation at the Sudima in Rotorua and has now been transferred to the Jet Park Hotel in Auckland after her positive test.

The second case is a person in their 30s who was staying at the Grand Millennium in Auckland and tested positive around day 12 of their stay.

The total number of active cases in New Zealand is now 114, with 18 of these imported cases from managed isolation facilities.

The contact tracing team has now identified 2308 close contacts of the current cluster, with 2219 having been contacted and instructed to self-isolate.

151 people linked to the cluster have now been moved to the Auckland quarantine facility, including 89 people who tested positive for the virus.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in New Zealand is now 1324.

Nine people with the virus are currently in hospital Two people are in Auckland City Hospital, four in Middlemore and another two in North Shore Hospital.

One person is in Waikato Hospital. Six people are stable while three are in ICU at Middlemore.

"All of the cases who are in hospital are isolated and carefully managed separately from other patients," the ministry said.

On Saturday, labs processed just over 7000 Covid tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to 692,481.

"Laboratories are now processing tests within 24 hours of receiving them, although people should allow four days to be notified of their test results from when they were swabbed.

"Positive results are notified and followed up straight away. This is consistent with time-frames throughout most of the pandemic, and takes into account transport times, processing, checking and notification to GPs."

Auckland

There are now two "major changes" to restrictions in Auckland to make moving around the checkpoints easier.

"People can now transit through Auckland without stopping in order to travel for work. They must show evidence of the purpose of their travel and their departure point and destination, but an exemption is no longer required.

Existing class exemptions have also been added into the COVID-19 Public Health Response Order to make them more visible and clearer for people."

People who need to travel to Auckland for hospital appointments also do not need an exemption. They will however need ID and an appointment letter or similar as evidence.

Morinsville's Kingswood Rest Home has been officially cleared of any possible cases.

Covid tracer app

The Covid tracer app has recorded 1,744,000 registered users, and there have been 310,707 QR posters created. App users have scanned posters 14,432,239 times, and made 1,511,829 manual entries.

What should I do?

If you are sick, call your GP before you visit, or call Healthline on 0800 358 5453.

To avoid contracting and spreading the virus, wash your hands properly, cough and sneeze into the crook of your elbow and throw tissues away immediately.

Positive spin...yeah right

Wow, comparing NZ to USA covid-19 infections tonight, yes Jacinda, you cocked up big time. Talk about pulling the wool over our eyes and putting a positive spin on this mess you created. NZ had no infections, well, lets use hotels (at the tax payers expense) as quarantine facilities in the most populated centre of NZ, hmmmm what could possibly go wrong!? Maybe you should've hired health professionals with a bit of common sense in regard to removing the possibility of reinfection. An idea comes to mind from a lowly truck driver, how about putting incoming overseas visitors and infected persons in a military facility outside populated areas and stop being so damn PC, these people have a virus that can potentially kill a large number of people.
