One person is in hospital with moderate burn injuries after a boat fire on Lake Rotoiti Sunday morning.
Emergency services responded to the call around 10.38am and found a 6m boat on fire just offshore of Otaramarae Bay.
Northern Fire Communications shift manager Scott Osmond says four people taken off the boat by nearby boaties and one was taken to hospital with moderate burns.
'Two fire appliances responded, as well as Rotorua Coastguard.
'Crews boarded boats in the area, including the Coastguard boat, to put the fire out.”
Scott says once the blaze was extinguished, what was left of the boat was towed back to shore.
'Fire safety has not been called to the incident, so it is not being treated as suspicious.”
