Police are on the hunt for the occupants of a vehicle which led officers on a pursuit in the Bay of Plenty overnight.

At around 7.30pm, officers were carrying out a routine traffic stop on River Road, Kawerau, says a police spokesperson.

"During this time a vehicle fled from the scene. The vehicle failed to stop after being signalled to by Police and a pursuit was initiated.

"Spikes were successfully deployed and the vehicle crashed into a paddock a short time later on East Bank Road."

No injuries were reported.

"The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and remain outstanding.

"Police are working to locate them."
