Double homicide after Omanawa shooting

Updated 11am: A child fled the scene of a shooting looking for help shortly after two men were killed in Omanawa, neighbours say.

Police were called to an Ormsby Lane address about 7.40pm following a report of shots having been fired.

Shocked neighbours told Stuff as many as five people lived at the property and a child ran from the house looking for help after the shooting. People are believed to live in a caravan, a large shed and a house at the property.

Earlier 10:30am Two armed police remain at the entrance to Ormsby Lane, Omanawa this morning following the death of two men last night.

The street is quiet apart from the occasional car going past, a reporter at the scene says.

“A woman arrived in a car and spoke to the scene guards wanting to access the property,  she was visibly upset, and told by police she could not go down there.”

Police were called to an Ormsby Lane address about 7.40pm following a report of shots having been fired. 

Two men were found deceased upon arrival, says district manager criminal investigations Mark Loper. 

“Police are working to understand the full circumstances of what has occurred.” 

A homicide inquiry has been launched, and a scene examination will continue at the property today.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area around the time of the incident, or anyone with knowledge of those involved, to get in touch.
