I read by P Dolden's letter (The Weekend Sun, January 10, page 28) concerning Iran with incredulity.

"The assassinations of foreign officials going about their legitimate business. "This Iranian (Soleimani) doing his bit for his country" were perhaps the two most startling comments made.

I suppose P Dolden believes that murdering thousands of his own countrymen and women, imprisonment without trial of anyone who doesn't agree with the state and the murder of thousands in other Middle East countries by Iranian sponsored and backed terrorist organisations, is classified as legitimate business.

Where were the howls of protest from the biased left-wing media when these atrocities were and continue to be committed by this Iranian doing his bit for his country?

Perhaps P Dolden can be excused for not knowing of these atrocities as they are never reported by mainstream media.

The contrived ‘death to America' protests seen on TV are organised by the state. The fact is that more than 90 per cent of ordinary Iranians love America and welcome the assassination of Soleimani.

As for the now expected left wing criticism of Israel, Israel remain the only true democracy in the Middle East. Most of its near neighbours, including Iran, don't even recognise Israel's right to exist and vow destruction of Israel. Given this scenario, Israel are well within their rights to take whatever action they deem necessary to strike at those who want to destroy them.

Donald Trump is to be commended for his stance towards Iran after his predecessor Obama had enabled Iran to pursue their polices of developing nuclear weapons and continued sponsorship of terrorist groups in Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Gaza and Iraq.
