Police have recovered a large amount of mail stolen from two local post boxes over the holiday period.

The thefts occurred from a box on William Street, Paeroa, between Friday, December 27, and Monday, December 30, and another on Belmont Road between Friday, January 3, and Monday, January 6.

'The mail, much of which had been opened, was today located thanks to a helpful member of the public,” says a post on the Waikato Police Facebook page.

'Police would like to return the stolen mail to the original senders and also identify any property that may have been taken.”

Anyone who posted mail to these boxes on the relevant dates is urged to get in touch with Police by calling 105, and quoting file number 200108/6609 (William St) or 200108/6290 (Belmont St).

'Enquiries into the thefts are ongoing with several positive lines of enquiry.”
