Police have cordoned off the area around the Quest Hotel on Durham Street, Tauranga, this afternoon.
A reporter at the scene says police tape has gone up in the area.
"No one is allowed in or out.
"Multiple police units are at the scene."
A police spokesperson says officers are investigating an assault.
A St John spokesperson says one person has been taken to Tauranga Hospital with serious injuries.
