What‘s on - parade, sailing, markets and cricket

The Pak’nSave Papamoa Kiwiana Christmas parade is on today with pre-parade fun from 9.30am and the parade at 12pm.

The weather looks mint for parades, triathlons, markets, the popular mud dog run, sailing and the beach. For those out on the water, expect light winds and afternoon sea breezes.

A special welcome to the passengers and crew of the Noordam and Caledonian Sky which are both in port today. The Noordam is due to depart at 5.45pm and the Caledonian Sky at 10pm

It's a one to two layer clothing day, with an expected high of 25 degrees and an overnight low of 16 degrees. Sunset is at 8.14pm.

It looks like a fine week ahead. Monday through to Saturday are forecast to be mostly fine with light winds with temperatures reaching the mid-20s during the day and about 14 degrees overnight.

What's on today?

The Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club are holding their Gold Cup event from 10am – 8.30pm today. This is part of the Bluewater Series which is the for the longer distance racers, and offers the most challenges including the Mayor Island Race, Motiti Island Race and the Whitianga Races. The Pak'nSave Papamoa Kiwiana Christmas parade is on today with pre-parade fun from 9.30am and the parade at 12pm. There will be a free ferris wheel, merry-go-round, BDazzled balloons, Batman, Alfred, Joker, Poison Ivy, Elsa, Olaf, Ana, Grinch and Frosty appearing from 1pm – 2pm at the Papamoa Plaza. Also in Papamoa today is the Papamoa Lions Club Market at the Gordon Spratt Reserve, Alice Lane. Come along for fresh produce, food, and bargains. The market runs from 8am – 12pm.

The Weetbix Kids TRYathlon is being held at Arataki Park today from 7am – 1pm with the swim section being held at Baywave. Approximately 1200 children will be taking part in this event. Kids of all sporting abilities swim, cycle, and run their way around age appropriate courses, either as an individual or as part of a team of two. Come and cheer them on. More here

Next to Coronation Park is the Pepi Toot train which will be out about today and tomorrow from 10am – 2pm with 30 minute rides, leaving from Salisbury Ave outside the Spongedrop Cafe. All aboard! Toot! Toot!

The Tauranga Woodcrafters 2019 Show is on from 10am - 4pm at the Mount Sports Centre. Come and check out carving, woodturning, toymaking and a scrollsaw exhibition. Come have a go. Entry $5. Under 15 free. More information here

The Wander Dogs Mud Dog Run 2019 is on today from 11am – 2pm at the TECT All Terrain Park. There are options for all levels with 2.5km and 6km fun runs.

The Miles Art Award is now open for entries. Submissions are online. This is the sixth instalment of the biennial awards, with the exhibition to be held at the Tauranga Art Gallery from March 14 – June 7, 2020.

The Atrium Art & Artisan Fair is celebrating its second birthday today at The Black Sheep Bar & Grill, 21 Plummers Point Rd, Whakamarama. Come and experience great food, live music and local creativity. The fair runs from 11am – 3pm. More here

There are exhibitions on today at Tauranga Historic Village. Check out ‘Passion with Paint', a group exhibition from Sue Mac Dougall, Suzy Cels, Jenn Brotherton and Melody Downie at the Incubator Creative Hub.

Over 70 skateboard decks are on display at The Incubator Creative Hub. Embellished and painted from artists around New Zealand, the exhibition launched on Friday November 1 and runs until November 26.

Greg Brownless in 'Noises Off'

Come and see some of Tauranga's actors on stage at 2pm this afternoon in the play ‘Noises Off' at 16th Avenue Theatre. The show runs until December 7. Hailed as one of the funniest plays of all time, the Olivier Award-winning ‘Noises Off' gives us a window into the inner workings of theatre behind the scenes. More here
