A concert for everyone

Bay of Plenty Symphonia presents ‘Spiral of Sound', an orchestral concert with plenty of variety, at Holy Trinity Church.

Star of the show is renowned marimba player, Yoshiko Tsuruta, who wowed the audience performing with the Symphonia a few years ago.

‘We are delighted to welcome Yoshiko back to play with us in Emmanuel Séjourné's gorgeous concerto,' says Symphonia Committee member Maggie Gething. ‘She is a stunning performer with her huge marimba, which is a step or two up from the basic instruments taught today in many schools!'

After completing performance studies at the NZ School of Music in Wellington, Yoshiko moved to Austria for her Masters degree under one of the world's leading marimbists, Bogdan Bacanu. Séjourné wrote this concerto specially for him and it has become one of the most popular works in the marimba repertoire.

Yoshiko is in demand as an professional percussionist and is frequently on tour with various top chamber groups and orchestras as well as in solo performance. She lives in Tauranga with her partner, Justus Rozemond, who is the Symphonia's Music Director and will conduct this entertaining concert.

Also on the programme is ‘Spiral' an unusual, atmospheric piece by Sir Paul McCartney, while pieces by Donizetti, Dvořák and Ravel will delight the more classically minded.

Entry is by donation – pay what you can afford and what you think it is worth!

SPIRAL OF SOUND will be held on Saturday, November 16th from 4 pm at Holy Trinity Church, Devonport Road. No tickets are required.
