A teenager is in critical condition following a stabbing in the Bay of Plenty.

The 17-year-old was taken to Rotorua Hospital after being stabbed at a house on Frank Street around 2.30am on Sunday.

Police say he suffered life-threatening injuries.

Detective Sergeant Tony Colby says it's an isolated incident.

Police investigating the stabbing are appealing for anyone who was at the house on Frank Street in the early hours on Sunday morning to come forward.
