UPDATED 3.22PM: NZTA is reporting the State Highway 2 is now open after a tree came down earlier, blocking the highway.

SunLive readers emailed in to says a tree was down on SH2 and traffic was backed up past Pahoia.

The highway was closed to allow the tree to be cleared from the road.

NZTA says SH2 is now open.

There have also been reports of trees down further up the road on SH2 and one on Poripori Road.

There have been no reports of closures in these areas and people are advised to drive with care.

State Highway 2 at Omokoroa is closed this afternoon due to a fallen tree.

SunLive readers have emailed in to says a tree is down on SH2 and traffic is backed up past Pahoia.

The NZ Transport Agency says a tree has fallen across the the highway.

"Due to a fallen tree, SH2 is closed at Omokoroa Road.

"No detour is available. Follow the directions of emergency services or delay your journey."
