Tauranga assault tips lead to arrest

The accused will appear in Tauranga District Court this morning.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested in relation to a serious assault in Greerton.

The crime featured on Police Ten-7 on Thursday.

Since the airing, police have received a number of tips which have led to the arrest of the alleged offender.

The man was arrested in Te Puke yesterday and is facing a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm arising from the incident which happened on April 10 in the doorway of the Chadwick Road, Greerton, Pizza Hut.

'Thanks to information from the public as a result of Police Ten 7 our staff were able to follow up and make an arrest,” says Detective Sergeant Rob Lemoto.

'The victim is also appreciative of the public response which has enabled the arrest.”

After watching the video this cowardly bully should be charged with attempted murder. The victim could have quite easily died. I shop at the same place, it could have been me. What a dispicable act, absolutely no empathy or remorse shown to this poor man. I hope the judge sees common sense and locks this violent criminal away from the public...
