Unique stores in the Tauranga CBD

With people saying there is nothing to do in the Tauranga CBD, there is still plenty to see and do.

Little do they know some businesses have been around the CBD for 20 plus years and are still thriving.

Located on Devonport Road, Indelible has been there for the past seven years. Owner Heather Chander has been in the CBD for the past 32 years and it's a very exciting time to be in the CBD.

'We initially started as a gift store, but branched into jewellery about five years ago, and the jewellery has just grown to be our biggest selling item instore.

'Also all of our ladies products are also very strong items in our store.

'I've actually been in the CBD 32 years, having been in other businesses and I just really love it.

'I love the buzz of the CBD. I love the fact that the CBD is coming ahead again and being rebuilt.”

SunLive tagged along with Downtown Tauranga to see what unique stores the CBD has to offer.

Four little niche stores is hardly a CBD that's buzzing. Yeah I know there's other stores but what's the drawcard, what's the ace that's going to get people back into the CBD. The Lakes (with free adequate parking), Bethlehem (with free adequate parking) , Bayfair (with free adequate parking) . . . Tauranga CBD . . . not exactly a hard choice is it. We still have homeless camping in doorways, we still have begging, we still have the same old, same old. Come on (Mayor) Tenby Powell, we NEED you. Bring on the change, bring back the vigour and pride into dying city.

Far too expensive

All these shops in the CBD charge an arm and a leg for their goods.I would hazard a guess that about 60odd% of the Tauranga residents could afford Step In shoes prices Alot of these shops really are for the tourists and cruise ship passengers. Just over priced bouquets.Incidently I counted over 7 vacant shops on Devenport Road just from Elizabeth St to half way down on Left hand side says it all with parking ete Why would I want to go to CBD unless I need to?
