The slip lane in Welcome Bay is currently closed to all motorists, but NZTA are hopeful that it could be open before Christmas.
The slip lane was closed in September last year as more permanent, safer measures were sought for all road users.
Bay of Plenty system manager Rob Campbell says they are currently completing the final design that will enable NZTA to safely reopen the Welcome Bay slip lane.
He says construction is expected to start in the next few weeks.
'The work will take around two months to complete and we expect the lane to be operational again before Christmas.”

Why be hopeful ? Based on previous efforts who would expect it to be on time or actually useful. Will there be consultation with users who actually may just know what is required?

just remove the cycle lane painted on the road and then it becomes just like any other intersection

....but I can't say I have seen the plan for the work to be done as it seems to be a delayed issue for the council to deal with...perhaps the solution can be published...hopefully it's cheaper than the expected Mauo base track repair!....but then..it says 'could' be open br Christmas ( when there is minimal traffic to know if a solution is found)...wht is everything so hard for our council and who will stand up and take responsibility....anyone?...
