I Am Giant to play in Tauranga

London-based quartet I Am Giant is coming to Tauranga to play at Brewers Bar as they embark on the New Zealand tour to promote their debut album.

English vocalist Ed Martin, sticks-man Shelton Woolright (formerly of multi-platinum selling band Blinspott), bassist Paul Matthews (former of Auckland outfits Stylus and Tadpole), and veteran guitar-slinger Aja Timu will be playing at the Mount on Thursday, February 9.

I Am Giant will be in Tauranga as they tour the country promoting their debut album.

Paul Matthews says they're embarking on their biggest New Zealand tour on the back of their album becoming the biggest local selling rock album of 2011.

'We were here for Big Day Out and are about to start on our biggest tour yet.

'Our last show was a Rugby World Cup gig in October.”

Paul says the album is comprised of alternative rock songs.

'We're really happy with it. For all of us it's sort of been our best project to date.

'We've been in other bands and stuff and it's all just culminated to us coming together and making this album, it shows our focus and is our best album yet.”
I Am Giant formed three years ago and Paul says they have been working on the album ‘for a good two years.

It was recorded this time last year, he says.

'We actually recorded it with an amazing Australian producer called Forest Saville, we went to Melbourne and Sydney and did it between Melbourne and Sydney.

'We're going to be touring the whole country, but in particular we're going to be down in Mount Maunganui next Thursday at Brewers Bar.”

This will not be the first time the band has played in Tauranga, with previous shows at Illuminati and Brewers Bar.

'It's always a great night. We'll be looking to pack it out.”

Paul says they will also be playing at the Tattoo and Arts Expo in Hamilton.

'We're looking forward to that.”

Paul says people can get tickets from the I Am Giant website and their Facebook page.
