The Father of the bridge that was not invited to the ceremony.
What a shameful affair when the person responsible for making such a gesture to the citizens of this area is not made welcome.
Without the efforts made by Winston Peters and the T.A.G. team, we would still be paying a toll to cross our harbour bridge. I ask you, is it not right that Mr Peters should not only be present at the ‘Grand Opening', but be received as guest of honour.
Why then was this lack of respect allowed to happen. Regardless of whether one agrees with his party line, his service to the community has been exemplary and to be so ignored just goes to show the shallowness of the organisers and their complete lack of decency and respect toward a statesman without peer.
Here is a man who goes to battle for us and is not even given an invite to be present. I believe there should be a plaque expressing the thanks of the people.
How many of today's motorists that cross the bridge daily, ever give a thought for the efforts of this man who have given us all the freedom to cross without let or hindrance.
