One person is unaccounted for following a house fire in the Bay of Plenty.

Firefighters were called to the blaze, which completely razed the house, at 2am in Ruatahuna, near Te Urewera.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson says five fire trucks and two fire investigators are at the scene.

The spokesperson says one person is currently unaccounted for.

Investigations are continuing.
