No injuries in Mount car fire

UPDATE: 6.19PM: No one has been injured in a car fire that occurred this afternoon in Mount Maunganui.

An email to the SunLive newsroom says they were first on the scene.

'The driver said they were driving along with their aircon on and it started smoking.

'They then looked and saw the mat of the floor on fire, so pulled over and it burst into flames.”

A fire and emergency northern communications shift manager Daniel Nicholson says they attended the car fire on Tasman Quay and was fully involved in fire when they arrived.

'We have no extinguished the fire and have left the scene.

'We are not treating it as suspicious or anything.”

Daniel says he doesn't believe anyone was injured.

EARLIER:

A car is on fire in Mount Maunganui this evening.

A video sent into SunLive shows the car well involved in flames.

A message to the SunLive Facebook page says it is on Tasman Quay heading towards the port.

'There is no fire fighters there yet.”
