Tauranga cheer in New York

Despite good cause for discontent in the Bay of Plenty owing to the Rena disaster, someone from the region has some festive cheer – having a new year greeting from the region posted in New York's Times Square.

A festive greeting in New York from someone in Tauranga.

Tauranga resident Phillipa Downie was in New York on a day trip on Monday when she took photos of the crystal ball that is dropped each New Year's Eve in Times Square.

At the time she was unaware of the message showing on the electronic billboard behind it, but later when perusing the photographs she had taken she noticed the Tauranga message.
