Carjacking during police pursuit

Four people are in police custody after a pursuit and carjacking,

The incident began when police noticed a stolen vehicle in Ngatea area at around 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Police signalled for the vehicle to stop but it fled, says a police spokesperson.

"We pursued for a short time before we abandoned."

As police were attempting to relocate the vehicle, the occupants dumped their original vehicle and stole another vehicle off a member of the public, who police say was uninjured.
