Council seeking feedback for pathway

Tauranga City Council is seeking feedback from the community on a possible coastal pathway connecting Memorial Park and the City Centre via The Strand.

The proposed pathway has been identified as a key connection in city centre strategies and walking and cycling plans.

Benefits include providing a safe and flat walking and cycling connection and providing the ability to access and celebrate the water's edge.

The pathway was considered in 2007 as part of the Southern Pipeline project, however it was not progressed further.

More recently, submissions to the Long Term Plan and Annual Plan encouraged Council to revisit this project, as well as submissions that were against the proposal being considered again.

A council spokesperson says they would like to understand the range of views the community has on the proposed pathway and to identify issues or opportunities that may need to be considered if it was to progress to the next stage of concept design.

Tauranga residents can provide feedback at the community open days listed below or visit the ‘Have Your Say' section of the Tauranga City Council website which includes an online submission form.

Feedback?

Why would anyone take the trouble to give the Council feedback when they do what they want anyway. Don't forget the Phoenix carpark feedback which they took no notice of.

No way No No No

Until TCC fixes the Greerton fiasco I'm going to object to everything they suggest.

Laughable

We all know what happens to feedback! It just gets ignored. Lets face it, the council has probably already awarded the contract to build it to a mates business

somewhat inaccurate

In 2007 this obscene walkway was fully designed & costed engineered and the estimate was in the region of 16 million dollars. It went through a resource consent process and was approved. Following the 2007 local body election it was determined the business case did not stack up and it was abandoned as was the museum on a pier. It beggars belief that today's City councillors and mayor have not been provided all of the information relevant to the resource consent as they now seek to duplicate work already done.

“Duplicating work already done” is their area of expertise. Waste of money. Another area of expertise.
