A severe weather watch has been issued by MetService this morning.

A MetService spokesperson advises people to check weather updates incase additional areas are either added to the weather watch or upgraded to a warning.

'An active front is forecast to move across the country from the Tasman Sea late Sunday and during Monday, preceded by a strong and moist north-northwest flow.”

Tauranga residents should expect heavy showers this morning and easterly breezes throughout the day.

The rain is expected to clear at 11.00am, however showers may return this evening.
