Tauranga gears up for New Years

As Tauranga gears up for New Year's celebrations, the Tauranga City Council is advising people of any changes to normal activities in the area.

The first change which will affect people in the area Mount Maunganui area is road closures.

People are getting ready for New Year's celebrations.

Marine Parade, between Adams Avenue and Pacific Avenue, is closed overnight from 8pm to 6am until January 6.

The Mount peninsula north of Banks and Salisbury Avenue is also closed to vehicle access from 2pm on New Year's Eve, until 8am on New Year's Day.

Council says people staying within the road closure zones need to have vehicle passes.

These are needed to head down to the Beach base at Mount Drury and people wishing to get one need to have proof of a Mount Maunganui address or accommodation.

From 2pm on New Year's Eve, a vehicle pass issuing station will be set up at the Park n Ride on Waimarie Street, off Hewletts Road.

Other information for people visiting the Mount area over New Years includes:

Buses

Since most people won't be able to drive into the Mount on New Year's Eve, why not take a bus straight into the event zone.

Free Park n Ride

Take the easy route to the Mount on New Year's Eve – use the NYE Park n Ride at Waimarie Street off Hewletts Road and take a free bus into the event zone.

Park n Ride runs from 11am on New Year's Eve until 2am on New Year's Day. Security will be onsite to monitor parked cars.

$15 bus service

Bayline Coaches run a $15 bus service on New Year's Eve with pick up locations around the city. Grab a summer passport for timetables or check out www.baylinebus.co.nz. Tickets can be purchased from Bayline Coaches, visitor information centres, Golden Grove Holiday Park, Papamoa Beach Grove Holiday Park, and Papamoa Beach Top 10 Holiday Resort.

Liquor-free zones

Between December 26 and January 5 the liquor-free zone in Mount Maunganui expands and a temporary liquor-free zone is put in place in Papamoa.

Council says there is an additional liquor-free zone in Papamoa.

From 10am on December 31 until 6am on January 1, the Papamoa liquor-free zone will temporarily expand to cover a larger area for an event.

RUBBER DUCKS AND GUMBOOTS

Duck weather I am afraid, an umbrella may have been of some use but with the wind to the rain will be travelling sideways. Gumboots will fill up, wet socks and all.

Transfer it to the new indoor TECT Arena. Reduced impact on residences, greater security. Excellent parking! Get entertainment going in the 3 and 6 court areas!
