The causes of several fires in the Bay of Plenty have not been identified.
Fire and emergency New Zealand northern fire communications shift manager Paul Radden says Maketu, Te Puke and Pukehina volunteer fire brigades were called to a shelter belt fire in Paengaroa just before 4pm.
'Fifty metres of shelter belt was on fire.
'Crews spent about one hour and 30 minutes at the scene.”
Other fires included a scrub fire in Opotiki at 3.26pm, another one in Whakatane at 3.32pm and a third, also in Whakatane, at 3.35pm.
'These were all small scrub fire and were quickly extinguished,” says Paul.
'As far as I can tell, no causes have been identified.”
