Papamoa assault leaves man in critical condition

Part of Papamoa’s Fashion Island was cordoned off after an assault on Sunday morning.

One person has been arrested following a violent incident outside the Flying Mullet Alehouse in Papamoa.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Rawlinson says two men were involved in the assault around 1.30am on Sunday.

He says what charges will be laid 'are yet to be determined”.

'A 23-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the assault, and is due to appear in Tauranga District Court on Friday.

'A 44-year-old man remains in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital.

'A 61-year-old man received medical treatment and has since been discharged from hospital.”

Police are urging people who were at or near the scene between 10pm Saturday and 2am Sunday to come forward if they have not spoken to police.
