Waitomo fires up petrol price competition in BOP

Building on its national expansion plans, Hamilton-based fuel supplier Waitomo Group has today opened its first fuel stop in Rotorua.

Conveniently located on Marguerita Street, in Fenton Park, the fuel stop will offer retail and commercial customers Unleaded 91, Premium 95 and Diesel.

In celebration, until Thursday lunchtime Waitomo is offering Unleaded 91 at $1.709 a litre, Premium 95 at $1.839 a litre and Diesel at $1.059 a litre at the site - the lowest fuel prices in the Rotorua region.

Following a blessing of the site, customers will be able to begin pumping from 12pm when the fuel stop officially opens, with free coffee and snacks on offer too.

Waitomo Group Manging Director Jimmy Ormsby says Waitomo is stoked to be able to kick off 2019 with the new Rotorua site.

'Last year, we ramped up our plans to expand and disrupt New Zealand's retail fuel market, with a promise to deliver more Kiwis a fairer deal. Rotorua is the first for 2019, but there's lots more to come.”

'We want to support Kiwis across the country, no matter where they live. And that's what we'll do – by providing fuel at the lowest price we can – the Waitomo price.”

Waitomo's low-price fuel offering has led to greater price competition in the areas it operates.

A Waitomo fuel stop will open in Papamoa in March, and construction has also started on a 6-pump central Wellington site, where fuel prices are among the highest in the North Island.

Plans are also under way for a Christchurch site to open before the end of the year, delivering long-awaited price competition in the South Island.

'As a 100 per cent Kiwi-owned and operated family business, our team's really proud to be shaking things up in the fuel market.

'Watch this space. It's going to be another big year for Waitomo and there's plenty more disruption to come."

Established in Te Kuiti more than 70 years ago by Desmond Ormsby, Waitomo Group now has 58 sites stretching from Paihia in the north and as far south as Foxton.
