A woman injured in a climbing incident in Mount Maunganui is in a serious but stable condition in Waikato Hospital.
The 32-year-old Whakatane woman was injured in the climbing incident on Wednesday night.
Emergency services were called to the tracks on the north side of Mauao around 7pm.
A SunLive reader who was at the scene says there was a climbing rope above them so it looked like a climbing accident - belaying failure or something.
"Back at the surf club there were all three emergency services in attendance in some numbers and another vehicle was going up as I came down."
A Waikato Hospital spokesperson says the woman may have been transferred there because of the specialist services they provide.
