UPDATED: A fire reported in Ohauiti this afternoon is now out.

Firefihgters were called to reports of a structure fire at a properrty in Adrian Lane, just after 2pm.

A reporter at the scene says there were four fire trucks at the property.

"We spoke with a neighbour who said they saw a garage on fire and contacted the fire brigade,"

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters have been called to what is believed to be a structure fire on Ohauiti this afternoon.

A SunLive reader has emailed in to say their neighbour's house is " extensively burned after the storm".

Thunder rolled across Tauranga less than an hour ago.

According to the live lightning tracker on WeatherWatch.co.nz, there have been a few lightning strikes over the Bay of Plenty area in the last hour.

"It's still burning but fire crews are working on it."
