Thousands of people came out to cheer on athletes participating in the Mount Festival of Multisport events throughout the day today.

Now, in its 30th year, the Tauranga Half has developed into an iconic event in the triathlon and Bay of Plenty community, with crowds lining the café filled streets of Mount Maunganui to cheer on the athletes.

In celebration of 30 years long-time athletes joined the start line with first time contenders.

The Tauranga Half individual and Tauranga Half team's events which kicked off at 6.30am saw athletes swim 2km, bike 90km and run 1km.

Winners in the elite mens category were 1st place Mike Phillips finishing 3:49:05, 2nd Jack Moody 3:50:58, and 3rd Mak Bowstead 3:57:11.

Elite females were 1st Hannah Wells finishing 4:13:19, 2nd Amelia Watkinson 4:15:12, and 3rd Rebecca Clarke 4:16:19.

Winners of the Tauranga Half team relay were 1st Team Steel Springs Performance Coaching with 3:50:16, 2nd Team Triple J Screen Printers 4:04:25, and 3rd Team J J & A Matthews 4:14:04.

As the only race of this distance currently available in New Zealand, Enduro event was one not to be missed. The consisted of a 3km swim, 120km bike and a 25km run for individuals and teams.

Winners for the Enduro Individual males were 1st Sam Clark fishing with 5:27:51, 2nd Hyden Corkin 5:59:30, and 3rd Daniel Eberhardt 6:19:21.

Enduro Females were 1st Megan Arthur finishing 6:31:28, 2nd Erin Furness 6:40:05, and 3rd Rebecca Swainson 6:45:43.

All profits made by the Mount Festival of Multisport are donated back into the community. The small profit made in 2018 was donated to Mount Maunganui Surf Life Saving.
