A search is underway for a man seen swimming of Kaiti Beach in Gisborne last night.
He went into the water about 9.45pm and has not been seen since.
Aerial, sea and land searches were conducted until 1am and have resumed again this morning, says a police spokesperson.
"Anyone with information about the man is urged to get in touch with Police."
